Featured Volunteer Opportunity

Interested in volunteering with The Gleaning Project?

There are so many ways to partner with the Gleaning Project! The best way to keep up with our needs is to sign up for our mailing list above.

Everyone must complete a waiver before the volunteer activity each year!

In Field Gleaners

This is our core volunteer need from July through November. In-field gleans are held at local farms and orchards in Franklin and Adams Counties. They last one to two hours and are held in the evenings, weekends, and sometimes mornings to avoid summer heat. Be prepared for outdoor, physical activity and an awesome time. This is a great experience for people of all ages and abilities.

Food Movers

How often do you drive around our region with available space in your vehicle? If you have a little extra time and a vehicle you can help us accomplish our mission. Simply pick up or deliver produce along your regularly traveled routes. Anyone with a vehicle can carpool with a box of veggies.

Bloggers

We think it is super important to stay engaged with our community. As a blogger, you can help us educate the community with resources and insights related to food security, food waste, and any other food-related material we can share! If you have material you would like to share, feel free to submit it here:

Produce Stand Attendants

The SCCAP Produce Stands are our flagship distribution sites, located in Gettysburg and Chambersburg. We need friendly faces and helping hands to stock the stands and encourage those we serve to take as much as they can use. This work involves moving containers of produce that weigh up to 40 pounds and usually lasts two hours, but can be shorter depending on time of day and volunteer availability. Let us know if you speak Spanish!

Gleaning Gardeners

Do you like gardening but lack the space in your own home? We can match you with gardens in the community who donate all their produce back to The Gleaning Project.

Be sure to follow the Everybody Grows: SCCAP's Community Garden Club on Facebook!

Data Tracker

It is crucial for us to track where the produce comes from and where it is distributed, as well as all of our wonderful volunteers. If you are good with computers and spreadsheets, this is a great task for you.

Event Planner

Do you have interest in coordinating events? We need detail-oriented people to help us with fundraising and outreach events (ex: Empty Bowls, World Hunger Week, Glean-A-Mania).
